CAIR-GA Attends Civil Rights Meeting with TSA & Homeland Security

TSA
TSACAIR Georgia recently attended a community engagement meeting hosted by civil rights attorneys from the Department of Homeland Security at the Sam Nunn Federal Building in Atlanta. During the meeting, officials from the Transportation Security Administration and Customs & Border Patrol explained their duties and discussed allegations of racial and religious profiling at airports.

The airport security officials encouraged Muslims, Sikhs and other Americans who believe they have experienced improper treatment to file a complaint online, which the TSA pledged to thoroughly review and respond to. CAIR-GA encourages anyone who files such a complaint to simultaneously email [email protected] so that CAIR can track and keep a record of the incident.

Civil rights attorneys with the Department of Education were also present. They offered themselves as a resource to combat religious discrimination in schools, including the problem of school administrators who ignore anti-Muslim bullying. CAIR-GA encourages any Georgia Muslims who experience religious discrimination that goes unaddressed on the local level to file a complaint with the Department of Education, whose civil rights attorneys would then decide whether they have jurisdiction over the issue and what, if any, action might be appropriate.
